As usual, the book is full of Greg’s funny thoughts and hilarious scenes with the Heffley family members and his best friend, Rowley.
The diary starts with Greg’s recollection of his life inside his mom’s womb – of him swimming around, taking naps, hearing classical music, his mom reading bedtime stories, etc.
While in the womb, he gets uncomfortable when his parents become mushy so to send a signal, he kicks his mom’s tummy every time his mom and dad are affectionate. But as we all know, pregnant women love it when a baby kicks so Greg’s kicking backfired. His parents would kiss every time the mom feels a kick! And because of this, Greg had sleepless moments in the womb which made him want to get out already and thus, he was born premature.
Check out Greg’s thoughts as a newborn -
And here is Greg’s first official baby portrait. Now we know why most babies are grouchy. Haha…
This next one is really funny. In the illustration above, Greg said that he was sleep-deprived while in his mom’s womb, right? Here’s what he has to say now -
The most creative excuse I’ve ever heard for not being able to wake up early! Haha…
Greg also shares his recollection of his mom making him watch educational videos every day. And here’s what he has to say -
Anyway, the rest of the book talks about Greg’s life in middle school such as electing the school’s student council, attending classes and school assemblies, baby-sitting, etc. Here's one funny snippet from Greg’s middle school life -
In their anatomy class, they were asked to dissect frogs and he doesn’t really enjoy it and becomes squeamish. He writes:
“Seriously though, in this day and age I don’t know why we’re still cutting open frogs to see what’s inside of them. If somebody tells me there’s a heart and intestines inside a frog, I’m willing to take their word for it.”
Haha… So funny!
The highlight of the book is Greg's Valentine Dance in school. He and Rowley decided to go out together with a girl and that's why it's aptly entitled Third Wheel - but I've to stop right here so I won't spoil the rest of the story for you. :)
Not sure if Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel is already available in local bookstores but a friend got my copy from a bookstore in Singapore. But the good news is, the eBook version is available on Amazon so you can download anytime. :)
